Where NYC influencers pick up their “Outfit-of-the-Day's"
Hey! Welcome to the Creator Economy NYC newsletter — the premier place for all things creator economy in the Big Apple.
Looking forward to next week’s NY Tech Week event with beehiiv — we have over 500 RSVPs 😮. Hope to see many of you there.
This week, I’m spotlighting an NYC brand I came across that’s building what I perceive as rent-the-runway meets your favorite influencers OOTD (outfit of the day).
Let’s get into it.

CITY SPOTLIGHT
Where NYC influencers pick up their OOTD’s

Imagine sharing a closet with New York City’s coolest influencer.
Well, now you can.
I recently stumbled upon Pickle — a peer-to-peer fashion marketplace that makes it easier than ever for people to rent clothing and for creators to earn passive income.
Pickle was founded in 2021 by Julia O’Mara and Brian McMahon, former Blackstone colleagues. Brian is also a graduate of the University of Maryland — my alma mater. Go Terps.
Julia O’Mara and Brian McMahon
The OG version of Pickle was an app where people could crowdsource opinions on each other’s purchases, but O’Mara and McMahon realized there was an opportunity for something bigger — a peer-to-peer rental marketplace.
To build momentum and get inventory on the platform, Pickle strategically partnered with NYC micro-influencers like Jess Habich and Megan Crean.
From there, they relied on the network effect as micro-influencers referred Pickle to their other influencer friends. From there, it was a domino effect of app downloads.
Glossy Pop
Influencers loved Pickle because it provided a way to earn passive income and a sustainable way to shop. And consumers loved renting the best clothing from today’s most stylish influencers!
The #shoponpickle has approximately 2M views.
But Pickle is much more than just an app that lives on your phone.
In October 2023, Pickle raised $8M in Seed funding co-led by Craft Ventures and FirstMark Capital.
Shortly after its fundraise, Pickle opened up a brick-and-mortar store in the West Village at 21 8th Avenue.
If you walk into Pickle’s West Village store, you’ll see dedicated racks of influencer clothing available for you to rent! If you’ve been, I’m curious to hear your experience!
So, if you’re an influencer looking to earn a passive income stream or if you’re an average Joe like me and just want access to some of the coolest closets in NYC, check out Pickle.
For now, I think I’ll be sticking to my usual uniform of a black tee — cuz, ya know… summertime… sweat.
Shoutout to Emmy O in our community for helping to write this piece. More to come!
